The International Criminal Court Project
The International Criminal Court Project of the Lex Lata Centre for International Law and Comparative Constitutionalism in Africa is a permanent project of the Centre aimed to continuously analyse and evaluate the contributions of the International Criminal Court to International Criminal Law in particular.
Since its commission, the ICC Project has deeply analysed the concept of positive complementarity in relation to African States. In 2020, interns prepared a report analysing the issues facing the implementation of the complementarity regime by criminal legal systems in various African States as well as a practical approach to achieving positive complementarity in Africa.
The interns also prepared a training manual on International Law and procedure. The training manual aims to develop the capacity of officials in the administration of International Criminal Law within Nigeria.
In 2022, the project’s interns explored the conceptualization of the principle of complementarity; specifically, its origin, models, definition and application in practice.
Further to the work done on the project in 2020, this year, our interns prepared a training manual on International Criminal Law specifically for law students in African Universities with the aim of providing basic training on international crimes and the jurisdiction of the ICC to participants.
